With only weeks left until the FCAT, students are working hard in all their classes so they feel prepared to succeed.  Between now and March students will work through an AMSCO workbook to review all the benchmarks one last time before the test. Also, instead of affixes for warm-up each day, students will learn an FCAT term so that they feel more comfortable when seeing them on test day. Each Friday students will take a short quiz to see how well they’ve learned these terms. Each week I will upload the FCAT terms so that you can practice at home; I will also upload the guided reading we do for each chapter. These PDF’s will provide a great study tool at home. Remember if you have any questions to feel free to contact me.

Welcome to your 8th grade year! I thought I would take a moment and tell some details about yours truly.

I am a native Floridian and could never imagine leaving the area. Crazy I know, but I am close with my family (literally we all live within a few blocks of one another) and my friends that I've known since I myself was in middle school. Speaking of, I attended Ramblewood Elementary, Ramblewood Middle and Taravella- so that makes me a product of the Broward County school system as well.

I continued my studies at Florida Atlantic University, where I tried my hand at nursing before earning my B.A in English Literature. I worked for a while as an assistant editor for HCI Publishing, but I found that I wasn't suited to an office job. I came to Margate Middle in 2004, and have loved every moment! I delight in waking up each morning and knowing that no two days will ever be the same because my students are constitently growing and changing. The energy they bring only renews my love for my job.

I currently hold a certificate in Language Arts 6-12, Reading Endorsement and ESOL. This year I am working to add National Boards to my qualifications. My goal is to never stop learning so I can keep bringing new ideas into my classroom.

Although I hold a certificate in Language Arts, Reading is my passion. I enjoy keeping up with current teen literature, and right now I can safely say my favorite has been the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.

If nothing else this year, I hope to prove to each child that there is a book out there that everyone can enjoy.
